There's something about fall in Wisconsin that makes you want to slow down. The air turns crisp, the maples along Main Street start to blaze orange and gold, and suddenly every table, porch, and doorstep feels like it's asking for a little seasonal warmth. At Olson's Flowers & Gifts, autumn is one of our favorite times of year to design, the color palette alone is a gift, and the blooms of the season have a richness you just don't get in spring or summer.

Here's a look at the flowers we love working with this time of year, and a few ideas for bringing that same warmth into your own home.

The Stars of the Season

Sunflowers are the obvious first pick, and for good reason. Their big, cheerful faces capture that late-summer-into-fall feeling better than almost anything else, and they pair beautifully with wheat, greenery, or a few unexpected accents for texture.

Chrysanthemums (or "mums," as most of us call them) are the true workhorses of fall. They come in an incredible range of colors, deep burgundy, burnt orange, golden yellow, soft cream and they last. Whether tucked into an arrangement or potted on their own for the porch, mums are practically synonymous with autumn.

Dahlias bring drama. Their layered, sculptural petals come in everything from soft blush to deep wine, and a single dahlia can be the focal point of an entire arrangement. They're at their peak in early-to-mid fall, so this is really the moment to enjoy them.

Marigolds add a pop of warm orange and gold, along with a distinctive, earthy fragrance that feels right at home in a fall bouquet. They're also a favorite for their old-world, harvest-festival charm.

Bringing Fall Home

A fall arrangement is a simple way to mark the season on your own kitchen table, as a hostess gift for a harvest gathering, or as a thoughtful surprise for someone who could use a little seasonal cheer. It's also the perfect time to think ahead to Thanksgiving centerpieces, since many of these same flowers and textures carry beautifully into the holiday table.

Whether you're looking for a single bunch of sunflowers or a full seasonal centerpiece, our team is always happy to help you find the right mix for the moment. Stop by our shop at 400 E Main Street in Mount Horeb, give us a call at (608) 437-3017, or order online anytime at olsonsflowers.com.  We offer same-day delivery throughout the Mount Horeb and greater Dane County area.
